Groupon War now in the UK

comp Groupon War now in the UK

Over the last few months the Groupon war has been moved to the UK and in particular London. Groupon was the first company that started in 2008 in Chicago. The way this works is very simple:

    1. Each day there is a different offer with at least 50% discount.
    2. You only get it if enough people join that day. The site prompt the users to invite friends and share the offer on Facebook/Twitter
    3. If the minimum number is filled the offer is available and a new offer appears the following day.

This model was rolled out to other several cities and since January 2010 there are at least 10 groupon voucher websites in the UK! Compared to the the size of the UK cities there are way too many websites. Some of the sites are extremely popular, some others merged in the mean time.

    Bing dropping the cash-back program

dollar bing Bing dropping the cash back programMicrosoft/Bing announced they are dropping the cash-back program. Microsoft Cashback promted the searchers to try Bing over other search engines by giving them cash back after buying through a search ad. Bing cash-back was available only in the US and it apparently was very successfully with some merchants. Bing invested a lot of PR and advertising at the launch in the US.

    How Google Works

Google launched a new website aiming at educating users on how Google really works.

“As a company, Google focuses on three key areas: Search, Ads and Apps. Search is our core technology; ads are our central business proposition; and apps are the umbrella over our web-based software that you can access anywhere, any time. While each of these has a lot of technology under the hood, the basic tenets for Search, Ads and Apps are very simple. We’ve created some short videos explaining the principles behind our core services.”

All videos are under three minutes long and presented by the product experts, the fist video on how Search works is presented by Matt Cutts.
