Search traffic from iPad

The worst thing as an iPad user is when you visit a website and by default it directs you to a mobile page which is set for mobile phones.  Suddently the images dissapear, the menu has changed and you cant do anything about this. The webmaster decided that iPad is a mobile and that’s why they should see the low resolution website with an option to call. A good example is WorldHotels.com, Accoring to their website: “Worldhotels is an exclusive collection of the world’s most unique independent hotels. Under the banner “Unique Hotels for Unique People”, it now has almost 450 affiliate properties in more than 250 destinations and 65 countries worldwide.”

Overall a nice looking website with a clear structure and to the point:

WH Site1 Search traffic from iPad

In terms of traffic again WorldHotels.com gets about 49k unique visitors with 150k pageviews .

WH Stats Search traffic from iPad

When you visit though from an iPad this is what you get:

WH Ipad V2 Search traffic from iPad

In this case WorldHotel do offer an option the user. again not a great way for an iPad user but at least better than others. We do hope that in the near feature web developers will put more thinking into the iPad users. We have noticed that in the past few months the traffic more iPad devices hasn increased alot. Below you can see a graph taken from GA for one of our clients. The iPad traffic has increase more than 10,000 times year on year with over 50k visitors. Something that you cant ignore any more!

How to export more than 500 rows in Google Analytics

When working in Google Analytics and trying to export more than 500 you face a problem where you cant export more than 500 rows of data. This is a problem for user with no access to Google Analytics tools for keyword expansion. A quick and easy way around this is by changing the URL.  This is very useful if you want to export for example a large number of non-paid keywords and adding them to your PPC campaigns.

If you have thousands of rows that require multiple exports, you can use the convenient workaround below to export all your rows in one go.

  1. Navigate to keyword report
  2. Change the query parameter ‘limit’ to the url, and hit enter to reload the report.
    For example: https://www.google.com/analytics/reporting/keywords?……………..&limit=5000
  3. Hit ‘Enter’ and confirm that the report now has the new parameter appended to it. Please note there will not be any visible difference in user interface.
  4. Select the Export tab, and click ‘CSV’ (remember not the option that says ‘CSV for Excel’).
  5. The exported CSV should now contain all the rows from your keywords table.

This should give you 5000 rows of data in the CSV file.

Creating Image Ads for the Google Content Network

What is the Google content network?

The Google content network reaches 80% of global internet users — making it the world’s #1 ad network. Thousands of advertisers use Google to reach users on hundreds of thousands of web sites across all industries, from large, well-known sites to niche sites and audiences. With an audience larger than any other ad network or single web property (even Google.com), on the Google content network your message will reach more of your target audience, in more places, more often.

The content network is a great tool and if used properly could generate some great results. Nowadays Adwords is very transparent on the network and the sites your ads are appearing. For the first few years there was a misconception among advertisers that content network could harm your campaigns because of the high number of impressions. This is definitely not true, there is a higher number of impressions but this is normal.

We always recommend to set up separate campaigns for you content campaigns and with very close theme adgroups. Also its advisable to run separate campaigns for image ads and text ads. This will make it easier to manage the banner ads, and the budget.

When to use content network?

  1. Create awareness, of a collection/model/new website
  2. Special offers, used with codes/fathers day/Christmas
  3. Competition, trying to get users to sign up to your competition etc.
  4. New products launch, great for start ups/new products in the marker

A few useful things

The content network offers  three ad formats, Text Ads/Video Ads/Image ads.

For image ads Google accepts eight different sizes, you can see them all here.

The following are the most popular sizes:

Leaderboard (728 x 90)

Banner (468 x 60)

Skyscraper (120 x 600)

Animated Image Ads

Animated ads in .gif and Flash format are accepted but remember they need to be 50k or under and stop any animation after 30 seconds.

Design

  1. Add call to actions on the banners, such as shop now/sign up
  2. Add your unique selling points
  3. Don’t forget to mention special offers
  4. Add any media mentions/quotes/reviews

Other solutions

If you don’t have the resources or the creativity to create image ads Google has a tool called Display Ad builder. You can create banners within minutes using some template or by uploading your images.
